Bok in New York

Short Takes

President Bok spent yesterday in New York, chairing a meeting of a group which brings Black South African students to American colleges.

As director of the National Advisory Committee of the South Africa Education Program, Bok led the closed bi-annual gathering. The program, sponsored by the Institute for International Education, brings Black South African students to the U.S. and places them in American universities.

Bok could not be reached for comment yesterday, but in the past has pointed to his works in projects like this one as indicative of his concern for South African Blacks.

The president also spoke briefly last night at a dinner in honor of the Medical School bicentennial. The dinner was part of the school's regional celebration, which included an earlier event in Washington, D.C.
