Brown University accepted 70 students from its wait list two weeks ago, and made the decision based on the students' ability to pay for their educations without financial aid.
Admission officials said they were forced to use income as a measure for admission because of a $200,000 deficit in their financial aid budget for next year.
No Bucks
Brown had "no more money" to accept wait listed applicants with financial need, said associate financial aid director Ernestine Whiting.
Despite the attention to income. Brown officials expect 1983-84 enrollment to meet their projections of 1350 students. That number will also include 239 Third World students, a record number, officials said. Brown Daily Herald
