Because of the unexpected availability of proctors, more than 100 freshman received an extra opportunity to take the quantitative reasoning computer test of a special testing session yesterday.

The original deadline for the test was Thursday, but Jeffrey Tecosky, a preceptor in the Core Program who oversees the requirements; said that because proctors were available, "we decided to give one more test."

Tecosky added that was surprised to find proctors available at the beginning of reading period.

Students who did not pass yesterday will have to petition the Administration Board to retake the test next fall during Freshman Week. Tecosky said yesterday, if they do not pass then, they must enroll in Quantitative Reasoning A, Applied Sciences 10 or Applied Sciences 11:

All students must pass by the time they become juniors, "or they can't become juniors," Tecosky said.

About 250 students have passed the test this month, including 113 at Thursday's test.
