Fraternities may finally come to Princeton University.

University officials announced last month that four fledgling "brotherhoods" set up by national organizations over the past year will find out this spring whether or not they will be allowed to gain official status.

The fratemities, which are making their strongest drive ever for recognition, have attracted mainly freshmen and sophomores, who are excluded from Princeton's eating clubs system.

Many officials are worried that the presence of fratemities may interfere with Princeton's scheduled transition to a residence plan based on a house system similar to Harvard's.

Administrators do have a presupposition that the position of the university in the past (against fraternities) has been sound." University Counsel Thomas Wright, Jr said last week. The Daily Princetonian, February 15
