STATE COLLEGE, Pa.-At the end of the first of three days of swimming and diving events here the Harvard women's team has staked out ninth position of 24 eastern teams competing in the EAIAW championships.
Meanwhile, the host team, Penn State, has surged into the lead, followed closely by Princeton.
With nine of the 24 events completed the aquawomen could manager only placing in the top six, a fifth-place finish in the 800-free style relay. Co-Captain Shelby Calvert and Jeannie Floyd combined with teammates Debbie Zimic and Anita Rival for the Crimson's strongest showing.
The aquawomen succeeded in placing in the top 12 in several events, including the 200 medley relay, the 500 freestyle, the 100 butterfly and the one-meter diving.
Harvard, which finished fifth overall here last year, stands only 11 points from sixth ranked B.U.
