Auerbach Resigning

Noting that "I'm older now than I was before." Red Auerbach said yesterday he will step down as general manager of the Boston Celtics after next year's National Basketball Association draft.

But he will continue building the legendary franchise of which he has been the architect for half his life.

Auerbach, 66, said he will stay on as the Celtics' president and consultant and operate out of Washington, D.C., where he lives.
