Fifty-seven percent of the Class of '87 passed the data portion of the QRR during Freshman Week, up from 51 percent last year.

Senior Preceptor in Mathematics Deborah Hughes Hallett, who heads the QRR, said that students are taking a less casual attitude towards the requirement and added. "The program is running more smoothly than in the past."

Moreover, enrollment for Quantitative Reasoning A, a course made up mainly of sophomores who did not pass the test during freshman year, has also fallen from approximately 95 students in 1982 to 70 this year.

In the past, the QRR has been plagued with widespread student apathy and confusion surrounding the administration of the two-part test, which is given at various times through out the school year, and included sections on computers and interpretation of data

The 690 students who did not pass the test have three more chances to do so. There test dates are Tuesday, October 11, January 31, and another date later in the spring.

Those who do not complete the QRR by the end of freshman year must retake the test during Freshman Week next fall, or enroll in Quantitative Reasoning A as sophomores. Those who still have not passed the requirement may face academic probation.
