Brulms Win Big

Boston goalie Doug Keans lost a bid for his first career National Hockey League shutout late, in the third period, but was supported by eight different scorers as the Boston Bruins blitzed the Minnesota North Stars, 8-1, last night

Keans, picked up on waivers this summer from the Los Angeles Kings, turned back 24 shots, yielding only to Bobby Smith with 5:40 left in the game.

The Bruins took control early in the first period when Minnesota goalie Don Beaupre came 65 feet out of the net and missed a clearing attempt, leaving a wide-open shot for Mike O'Connell at 5:17. Just over a minute later. Terry O'Reilly made it 2-0 when he camped in front of the net, converting a pass from Mike Milbury.

Boston added three more goals in the second period. Tom Fergus and Barry Pederson both beat Beaupre from close range on his stick side to make it 4-0. Luc Dufour tallied the fifth goal at 18:15, sliding the puck past Beaupre after working on a perfect 2-on-1 break with Peter McNaz.

Bruce Crowder made it 6-0 in the third period when he banged in a shot of 1:02. Mike Krushelnyski slapped in the Bruins' seventh goal at 16:15 with a shot from the top of the left circle.

Nevin Markwart scored the Bruins' final goal at 16:30.
