Eight marshals were elected this week to arrange June's Class Day activities and all future fundraising and reunions for the class, said Elections Supervisor Victor A. Koivumaki '68.

In order of finish, Harvard's new Marshals are: Winthrop's George P. Lightbody (First Marshal), Leverett's Mustapha Khan and Kevin J. Avery, and North's John F. Kelley.

In order of finish, Radcliffe's new Marshals are North's Elizabeth A. Marshal (First Marshal), Lowell's Christa L. Kuljian, Eliot's Joan E. Gould and Kirkland's Rosemarie Sabatino.

The victory of two North House candidates was an unusually strong-showing for the Quad, Koivumaki said. Previous year's poor showings had resulted in complaints from North, South and Carrier residents, he added.

Some new marshals said a major issue this year will be the use of the Endowment for Divestiture.

The fund was established last year by students who protest Harvard's financial holdings in the apartheid country of South Africa. Donations to the fund will be held in escrow until Harvard divests these holdings or for 20 years, at which time the money will be donated elsewhere.

Several of those contacted last night said they believed that students should have a choice in giving to general, scholarship, or divestiture funds.

"Last year the (general) Senior Class Fund was pushed almost to the exclusion of the Endowment for Divestiture," said Lightbody, who as a first marshal will serve in a leader for the marshals.

Added Kelley, "We should make a concerted effort to make sure both sides are presented fairly."

Most of the marshals were opposed to a direct gift from the Senior Class Found to the Endowment.

Initial ideas for the traditional Class Day speaker included President Reagan, former President Jimmy Carter and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Sandra Day O'Connor, marshals said.
