Police Blotter

The latest University Police statistics, released for the week ending August 28, show that since July 1 there have been no homicides, no rapes, one sexual assault, four assault, one robbery, 59 thefts of more than $100, 10 breaking and enterings and 49 bike thefts reported on Harvard property.

Police estimate the value of property stolen from September 17 to September 23 at $6191, including $200 in engineering books and a 1973 Ford Torino.

The following reports of crimes were taken from notes in the University Police log last week:

September 17, 12:47 a.m.--A Harvard officer noticed four men drinking in a car parked on University property near the Medical School. When he approached them, the driver told him to "get lost," and as the officer tried to pull him from the car, the man allegedly punched him. As they scuffled, one of the passengers in the car tried to help his friend. The officer called for assistance and both men were subdued. Hugh R. Trainor of West Roxbury and John J. Kelly were charged with public drinking, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly person and wanton destruction of property. Kelly was also arrested for attempting to rescue a prisoner.

September 18, 3:13 a.m.--A Cambridge resident walking on Mt. Auburn St. near Tommy's Lunch was confronted by three white men. The men threatened him verbally and claimed to have a knife. The victim fled and called the police. Officers stopped two suspects near Banks St., but the victim refused to press charges.

September 20, 7:07 a.m.--A woman walking on Harvard St. told an officer on patrol at the Business School that a man was following her and had exposed himself. The officer stopped Mark Sabree of Dorchester on the Anderson Bridge, but he denied the charge. The victim said she would press the case in district court.
