Weinberger Visits Crimson Dinner, Defends Build-up

Taking time out from the Falkland Islands crisis, Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger '38 visited Cambridge Saturday to attend the Crimson's annual dinner.

The former Crimson president defended the Reagan Administration's nuclear and conventional arms build-up in a 90-minute off the record discussion with the approxmately 150 alums and undergraduates in attendance.

Weinberger commented before his talk on defense policy that has carry "has been all downhill" since leaving 14 Plympton St.

Joining Weinberger as a featured speaker dunag the post meal discussion at Radcliffe, Cronkite conference center was Bernard Gwertzman '57, chief diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times.
