RUGGERS SWALLOW THE BITTER HERB

One week alter successfully defending their Ivy League championship, the Harvard Rughy Football Club "A" side choked down a disorienting 10-0 loss to Dartmouth Saturday in the ninth annual battle for the Charles River Cup.

Primed for revenge after successive losses to the Harvard "A" and "B" sides last weekend at Brown (at the match, the Big Green underlined its enthusiasm by distributing pamphlets which described the Charles River Cup competition, the game of rugby and its own members but neglected to mention the busting opposition). Dartmouth scored quickly on two just halt penalty kicks and added a late-games breakaway try.

MEN'S TENNIS

The Harvard men's tennis team romped to victory last weekend at the New England Tennis Championships, finishing first ahead of Yale by a comfortable 30- point margin.

In the "A" competition, fourth-seeded Adam Beren lost in a surprising opening-round upset to B.C's John O'Connell, while teammate Howard Sands made it to the finals but lost to Yale's Glenn Layendecker. 7-5, 6-4.

Harvard's Alex Seaver won the "B" division, defeating four opponents before downing Brown's Scott Dichl in the finals 6-3, 6-4.

In the "C" finals, which were played on clay. Harvard netman Rob Loud defeated freshman Ken Klemteld who made his first varsity appearance last weekend--6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

The duos of Sands-Beren and Wheeler-Beckman won the "A" and "B" doubles matches, respectively, for the Crimson.
