Women Cagers Fall Again

Yale Romps, 78-45

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Things are undeniably dismal for the Harvard women's basketball team.

Saturday evening, the hipsters performed miserably as they suffered a humiliating defeat to the Yale Bulldogs, 78-45. The loss brings the Crimson's season record to 2-15 (1-2 in the Ivy League).

Until eight minutes into the first half, Harvard was able to compete with its New Haven opponents. In fact, the Crimson managed to maintain a slight lead throughout most of the period.

But then the roof caved in on the cages.

For the remaining 32 minutes of the contest, the Crimson couldn't do anything right--allowing Yale to control all activities on the court. Most of the contest saw a Harvard team which appeared completely perplexed and stupefied by the Elis, a situation which reached its nadir late in the first half, when the Bulldogs outscored the Crimson, 36-12.

The Hard Facts

Aside from being outscored by 33 points, Harvard was also outclassed by Yale in all other statistical categories. The Bulldogs shot a laudable 54 per cent from the floor while Harvard could only muster a 28-per-cent ratio. The Crimson also dished out a mere four assists, while Yale managed to accumulate 16. And the Elis pulled off three more steals than did the frustrated Crimson defense. Most importantly, Harvard seemed unable to box out and compete under the boards, as Yale grabbed 46 rebounds to the Crimson's 31.

Junior Marget Long was the Crimson's high scorer as she managed to add 14 points to her team's futile effort.

"We were just blown out of this game. We have games like this," coach Carole Kleinfelder said. "I hope it's the last time we play like this."

When asked about the team's current morale, Kleinfelder said, "I would think that they'd be very upset."
