After a weekend that did little to help Ivy football's reputation of quality. Penn (3-0 overall, 2-0 Ivy remains the only undefeated team and is tied for first with Princeton.

The Quakers are off to their best start since 1968. Led by quarterback Gary Vura, who ran for two touchdowns and connected with tight end Jeff Schulte for two more, Penn defeated winless Columbia, 51-31.

Princeton handed Brown its first loss of the season coming back from a 17-0 halftime deficit. For quarterback Brent Woods, four touchdown passes were the Key, as the Tigers beat the Bruins at Princeton for the first time since 1971.

Continuing the tradition of losing to non-Ivy competitors. Yale fell to Holy Cross--the fourth-ranked team in Division I-AA--10-6, dropping the Elis' record to 0-3, the-worst start ever in Yale history.

Holy Cross took the lead early in the second half, but Yale came back to tie it up on a 45-yd drive spurred by tailback Paul Andries' punt return. However, place kicker Bill Moore was out with an ailing back, and backup Jeff Arons attempt went wide. The Crusaders clinched the game with a field goal in the second half.

Both Cornell and Dartmouth also remained winless as non-Ivy opposition was too much for them. Undefeated Golgate walked over the Big Green. 38-21, while B. U. beat Cornell, 17-6. The Terner defense allowed the Big Red offense only 123 yards, as B.U. snatched up three fumbles, intercepted three passes and blocked a punt.
