MORE VACATION RESULTS

Lack of height and inconsistent play continued to plague the women's basketball team as it dropped a pair of games to Monmouth and C.W. Post during the holiday break. The hoopsters extended their losing streak to five as their season mark fell to 1-9.

A powerful Monmouth squad--one of the strongest Harvard has faced this season--rolled over the Crimson December 19, 84-47. Though undersized and outplayed, the hoopsters managed to stay close for most of the first half. But in the second quarter's final five minutes, Monmouth reeled off 16 unanswered points to build a 21-point advantage and put the game out of reach.

The following night it was more of the same as C.W. Post beat Harvard 73-58. The hoopsters played poorly in the first half, but came back hustling in the third quarter, closing the gap to 55-51 with 8 1/2 minutes left to play. But again the hoopsters collapsed.

On the bright side, the squad's freshmen continued to sparkle. Lisa Leithauser played brilliantly against C.W. Post, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

NFL RESULTS

The Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers yesterday joined the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League's semi-final playoff round--the last step before Super Bowl XVI, January 24 at the Pontiac, Mich., Silverdome.

Cincinnati will host the Chargers for the American Conference crown next Sunday, and Dallas will play the 49ers in San Francisco.

The Bengals advanced with a 28-21 victory over Buffalo, while San Francisco eliminated the Giants, 38-24, on the passing of Joe Montana.

Ken Anderson, the league's top-rated quarterback, led the Bengals to their victory with 169 yards in the air. He hit Chris Collingsworth for a 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and that proved to be the game-winner.
