IOP Study Group to Feature Carter Administration Figures

Eugene Eidenberg, a fellow of the Institute of Politics (IOP) and Secretary of the Cabinet under President Carter, will bring several of his former White House colleagues to speak to his spring study group.

"The Carter Presidency: Some Early Perspectives" will feature talks from Jack H. Watson, former chief of staff, Moon Landrieu, former secretary of housing and urban development; Patrick Caddell, pollster for the Carter-Mondale campaign; and Jody Powell, former White House press secretary.

Reporters who covered the Carter team for the past four years will also speak to the group. Steve Weisman, White House correspondent for the New York Times, and Judy Woodruff, White House correspondent for NBC News, will discuss White House-press relations during Carter's presidency.

Eidenberg said yesterday his study group will "look at where politics and policy intersect." The guests will provide their "own specific perspectives on the Carter presidency," he added.

Eidenberg said he views these "early perspectives" as a "very useful exercise in the understanding of the presidency. This is a preliminary attempt to organize key actors together." Eidenberg hopes the discussions will help define some of the key issues and questions of the Carter presidency.

Eidenberg said the group will also provide the opportunity for "people in the Harvard community to talk to people who have been in government."
