The newly formed Social Studies student liaison committee will preside over its first general concentrators' meeting this Sunday to discuss student proposals for improving the concentration.

The committee will "communicate the collective will of the students of the department" to its administrators, Jordan C. Budd '82-3, a committee member, said yesterday.

The group will sponsor concentrator meetings once or twice a month to discuss issues including this year's cutback in the number of junior faculty assigned to tutorials, and the construction and grading of general examinations, Budd said.

He added that the group will also discuss other perceived problems like the availability of course and thesis advisers in the concentration, which has nearly doubled in size over the past five years.

In addition, concentrators have established separate subcommittees to consider tutorials and academics, advising and finances.

The committee met with David S. Landes, chairman of Social Studies, for the first time yesterday. Landes was unavailable for comment yesterday.

The liaison committee hopes to generate more student involvement in running the concentration, members of the committee said. A similar committee "fizzled out" three years ago, Budd added.

Elections for the six liaison committee members--two from each class--were held two weeks ago, with a turnout of about 60 per cent, Budd said. Besides Budd, elected members include Patricia I. Hansen '82, Robert A. Simins '82, M. Todd Collins '83, Adam S. Cohen '84 and Elizabeth Eisold '84.
