Uwe von Schamann kicked his third field goal of the game from 30 yards out with 7:09 gone in overtime to help the Miami Dolphins to a 30-27 National Football League victory over their division rivals, the New England Patriots, yesterday.

The winning kick was set up when Miami linebacker Bob Brudzinski picked off Steve Grogan's pass at the Patriot's 45 yard line and returned it to their 26. A late hit by tackle Dwight Wheeler on Brudzinski cost the Pats half the distance to their goal line.

With a first down at the Pats' 13, Miami turned to von Schamann, who delivered the winning kick.

The victory broke the Dolphin's five-game losing streak at Foxboro and gave them a one-game lead over Buffalo--which plays at Dallas tomorrow night--in the AFC East division race. The loss, which dropped the Patriots to 2-8, was the seventh this season by ten or fewer points and the second in overtime.

In the other two overtime games of the day, Chicago stopped Kansas City, 16-13, and Denver edged Cleveland, 23-20.

The San Francisco 49ers edged the Atlanta Falcons, 17-14, when a late Atlanta rally was killed by Dwight Hicks' interception on the San Francisco goal line. Since the New Orleans Saints defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 21-13, the 49ers now hold a commanding three-game lead in the NFC West Division over both L.A. and Atlanta with only six games remaining in the regular season.

The NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles exploded for more points than any other team this year trouncing the St. Louis Cardinals 52-10, while the world champion Oakland Raiders lost to the Houston Oilers, 17-16 as all three games behind the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC West Division. The Bengals shocked San Diego, 40-17. Minnesota jumped into first place in the NFC Central in beating Tampa Bay, 25-10.
