City Tax Assessment

Cambridge officials said yesterday that their plan to distribute "estimated property tax bills" to city homeowners, based on a 100-per-cent reassessment to be completed later this year, has again been delayed.

Earlier this week, city administrators predicted that state approval for their "estimated tax bill" procedure would be formally granted yesterday. But state officials said yesterday that the city has still failed to submit necessary additional data on the state-mandated property revaluation.

Cambridge assessors will meet with state revenue officials for a "working session" Monday, and final state approval for the estimated bills is expected later in the week.

State attorneys threatened two weeks ago to take the city to court unless it postponed the collection of property taxes until state revenue officials formally approve the Cambridge tax plan.
