Common Cold

University Health Services (UHS) doctors said yesterday the annual fall outbreak of the common cold is in full swing, but added they had no idea of the extent of the problem.

Students carrying viruses from their homes back to school account for much of the yearly problem, Dr. Warren E. C. Wacker, director of UHS, said yesterday.

Catheryn Angell, a nurse at Stillman Infirmary, added that such epidemics occur when people who haven't been together before suddenly begin sharing close quarters.

Neither Wacker nor Angell offered much advice on the treatment of colds, and added few sick students seek help from UHS. "The common cold is a relatively, short-lived phenomenon," Angell said.
