Buildings and Grounds (B&G) workers have cleaned and repaired heat ducts on the first floor of Weld Hall North, but dorm residents on upper floors are still complaining about cold temperatures.

By cleaning out radiators, and semi-closed vents in the bathrooms and checking heat supplies underneath the building, B&G has "amended the problem in her suite," Maddy C. Krauss '84 said yesterday.

But Linda F. Sugin '84, a second-floor resident, said "results do not necessarily mean heat," adding that B&G has yet to give her a space heater promised several days ago.

Robert L. Mortimer, superintendent of freshman dormitories, said yesterday he will take more steps to warm the dorm as soon as he gets specific recommendations from B&G.

Such recommendations include using electric heat and portable heaters, Frank A. Marciano, superintendent of River House and Yard maintenance, said yesterday. He added that the repairs yesterday should heat the stairways, halls and bathrooms.

But Sugin says the bathrooms are still the coldest place in the dorms, with temperatures in the '50s for several weeks. Weld residents can "ice ourselves in the showers," she said.

Temperatures are higher in other parts of the building. Shelley L. Kramer-Dover and Dale W. Dover, a senior advisor and proctor on the first floor, said yesterday the hall heat was working. They added, however, that heat has been "erratic" particularly this month.
