The women's tennis team traveled to Penn State University this weekend for a round-robin tournament and picked up wins over tough University of Virginia, 5-4, and not-so-tough Ohio State University, 5-1, while losing only once to the host Nittany Lions, 4-5.
Cavalier
Against a team that has usually dominated them in the past, the racquetwomen erupted Saturday to edge the Cavaliers in an exciting seesaw match. In singles, Tiina Bougas, Maria Pe and Martha Roberts all won for Harvard. Virginia recorded three singles wins too, but Harvard locked away one of its most impressive victories ever on the strength of victories by the second and third doubles teams of Erica Schulman-Bougas and Debbie Kalish-Meg Meyer.
The racquetwomen won the Ohio State match easily by capturing five singles matches, but lost to Penn State in the same fashion as they beat Virginia--in the final doubles match.
