A victory over Yale, the sweetest of any season, just wasn't to be this year for the women hoopsters, as they fell to their Eli hosts Saturday, 85-62.

The loss, not unexpected against the only undefeated team in the Ivy League (6-0) puts the Crimson's record at 10-12 for the year and 3-4 in the Ivies.

Yale jumped out to an early lead, catching a sleepy cager squad unaware as the Bulldogs piled up a 20-point lead after ten minutes of play. Harvard woke up and pulled to within ten points by the half, but the elusive Elis never let their lead slip any further and stacked up insurance points in the second half.

Height proved the crucial factor of the contest. Yale's twin towers, 6-ft. 1-in center Margy Hutchinson and Debbie Danner waded through Harvard's considerably shorter defense with ease, banking in 20 points a piece.

The highpoint of the game came in the last two minutes of play, when Yale's junior forward Lisa Brummel sunk two free throws to become the Elis' all-time leading scorer with 1046 career points. Harvard and Yale players alike stopped to congratulate the teary-eyed Brummel, who left the game to a standing ovation and an armful of roses.

Harvard drew some consolation from the fine performance by the J.V. squad, which ended its season by defeating the Elis, 60-50, with a final record of 7-5.
