The other teams could only sit back and watch the Harvard men's swim team put on its annual show.

Still riding high on the waves of last Sunday's upset over Indiana, the aquamen swept (first, second and third) every event except the 100-yd. backstroke and coasted to victory in the Greater Boston Men's Swimming and Diving Championships last night at B.C.'s William J. Flynn Sports Complex.

Ten GBC records fell to Harvard swimmers as the team relished the opportunity to compete in 100 yard events as well as the 200's that are swum in dual meets.

Most of the Crimson swimmers didn't even compete in their regular strokes, but the team still amassed 728 points in swamping local rivals Tufts, MIT, Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern and Brandeis. Tufts edged out MIT for second place, 425.5-422.5.

Divers Steve Schramm and Jeff Mule made things look easy for the Crimson right from the start, placing one-two in both the one-and three-meter board diving competition events on Monday evening.

Last night swimmers took over notching a win, a place and a show in the first ten events, including seven GBC records.

Jack Gauthier kicked off the competition with a GBC record of 52.2 in the 100-yd. butterfly, topping the old mark of 52.5.

Andy Lockman followed by knocking nine seconds off the old record in the 500-yd. freestyle, finishing in 4:40.7.

Backstroker Tim Maximoff made it three records in a row with a 1:59.9 in the 200-yd. backstroke, and then Gauthier did it again, setting a new meet standard in the 50-yd. freestyle, touching first in 21.9.

Freshman Jack Ewin, lopped four seconds from the 200 breast stroke mark, clocking 2:11.5, a time which promises to make him a factor in this event at the Easterns. The streak of records was interrupted when Ned Cahoon touched first in the 100-yd. freestyle (49.1), a second off the old standard.

Tom Verdin's 1:57.2 led a Crimson sweep of the 200-yd. butterfly and set yet another meet record in the process. Breaststroke ace David Lundberg lapped the Crimson's ten-event win streak with a record-breaking 58.9 in the 100-yd. breaststroke.

The only Crimson loss of the night came when Tufts backstroker John Montesi edged out Harvard's Mike Barnes in the 100-yd. backstroke with a time of 57.8.

Freshman Lundberg came through again for the Crimson by snapping teammate Maximoff's old GBC mark in the 200-yd freestyle, with a 1:43.8 clocking.

Maximoff, preserved his name in the record books, however with a 1:58.1 clocking in the 200-yd. individual medley.

The Crimson relay teams joined in the first-place jubilee, winning the 400-yd. freestyle in 3:19.3 and taking the 400-yd. medley with a time of 3:38.6.

Amid all the record setting and first place finishes, the Crimson swimmers found time to joke and cheer, showing some relief from the tension which had surrounded the team after its surprising loss to Princeton and during its subsequent win over highly favored Indiana.
