Harvard Student Agencies Elects Woman As President

Harvard Student Agencies (HSA) elected the first female president in its 23-year history last Thursday.

The Winner

Lynne G. Liakos '82 will assume the agency's highest student-held position on February 1.

Liakos, who joined HSA last May, won a majority of the 23 votes of the board of directors, beating three other candidates, current president C. Mark Battey '81 said Thursday.

Liakos joined HSA as an assistant manager of the Harvard Distribution Service, a year-old agency which distributes literature door-to-door on campus. She worked there through the summer and became manager of the publishing division, which composes the 'Let's Go' travel series.

"I've worked in an established agency like publishing, and a new one like distribution, and therefore have a good vision of the corporation as a whole," Liakos said yesterday.

No Difference

She added she does not think being female influenced her election, but "in the past, the board has simply thought people who happened not to be women would be better for the job.
