Veteran winger Don Marcotte knocked in two goals and added an assist to lead the Boston Bruins to a leisurely 6-2 route of the Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Garden last night in the opening game of their best-of-seven quarterfinal series.

Marcotte set up linemate Peter McNab to open the scoring at 2:39 of the first period, then reversed the combination less than three minutes later as he converted on McNab's cross-crease pass, sliding it by Penguin goalie Denis Herron.

Mike Milbury and Bobby Schmautz also tallied for the Bruins, and defenseman Dick Redmond added a spectacular breakaway goal, which came with Boston shorthanded. Former Flyer Orest Kemdrachuk and former Bruin Greg Sheppard scored for Pittsburgh.

In other quarterfinal action, Mike Bossy grabbed the hattrick as the New York Islanders trounced Chicago, 6-2. Montreal defeated Toronto, 5-2, and Ken Linseman scored after 44 seconds of overtime to give Philadelphia a 3-2 win over the Rangers.
