The Harvard men's fencing team gave a new meaning to the Thanksgiving custom of carving the turkey by slicing up Army, 16-11, Saturday in the season opener at the IAB.
Freshman standout David Heyman and senior captain Jim Goldenring led the onslaught at first and second sabre, respectively. Both remained undefeated in all three rounds, while Crimson senior Bill Garcia, who was substituted in the final round at third sabre, promptly disposed of the Cadets' number one man.
Harvard junior Dave Hanower also stayed unbeaten, capturing all three rounds at first foil. The loss to illness of top epee Rob Kaplan hurt the Crimson, although after losing the first round across the board, the three epees stormed back to take four of the remaining six matches.
