Harvard's racquet women warmed up for this weekend's New England Championships by burning Trinity, 6-2, in dual meet action yesterday in Hartford.

Still hot from Tuesday's win over Tufts, the women continued to improve their dual meet record (now 2-0) without too much trouble as Crimson coach Peter Felske got good performances from his old reliables.

Tiina Bougas, not even remotely challenged in the singles play so far this fall, coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Wendy Jennings in the number one slot. Bougas has yet to lose a set in a Harvard uniform.

Harvard had some trouble at the second and third singles. At the two spot, Captain Meg Meyer "lost to a strong player," as Felske put it, falling to Eileen Korn, 2-6, 3-6. A similar fate befell Martha Roberts as she had trouble adjusting to the clay in a 5-6, 3-6 loss at the hands of Dina Kaplan.

Debbie Kalish, another frshman who has yet to lose this fall, stopped former Smith standout Faith Wilcox, 6-1, 6-3, in the fifth singles. Kris Mertz continued to dominate the sixth singles, as she dumped Didi Seeber 7-5, 6-2.

Darkness won the fourth singles, as Abby Meiselman split sets with Brenda Erie, 6-1, 4-6, before the match was called because of poor visibility.

The doubles teams rebounded from a drilling at Tufts to sweep all three of their matches. The number one duo of Ronnie Sebok and Lisa Schneider rolled past Ann Brackenridge and Rita Petrocelli, 7-5, 6-2.

Playing number two, the Harvard duet of Patty Vitale and Deirdre Wilde whistled by their opponents, 6-2, 6-2. Sara Nicholas and Janet Teltscher, playing their first match together, made a sterling debut, cutting down their opposition, 6-3, 6-4.

The Harvard team faces its strongest competition of the fall this weekend at Amherst, as they seek to capture the prestigious New England championship for the first time. Harvard will receive its stiffest challenges from defending champions Dartmouth, and powerful Yale, who did not participate last year.
