A 10-10 tie between intra-state rivals Dartmouth and New Hampshire highlighted a weekend of football that saw Ivy League teams go 3-4-1 against their non-ivy opponents.

UNH rallied from a 10-0 halftime deficit with ten third quarter points and held the Big Green scoreless the rest of the way. Jim Quinn paced the Wildcat offense with 89 yards on the ground, while Jeff DuFresne led Dartmouth with 107. The vaunted Kemp-Shula passing combination connected four times for 54 yards and one TD, but other than that the two teams showed precious little offense, as each punter kicked nine times.

Misfortunes

In Providence Saturday, the Bruins of Brown (1-1) fumbled nine times but managed to hang on to the ball long enough to score a 31-13 victory over Rhode Island (0-4). Larry Carbone was 6 for 8 in the air, and Marty Morgan rushed for 81 yards to pace the Brown offense. The Bruin defense was spectacular, holding URI, to a mere 36 yards in 44 carries.

Yale took advantage of a key fumble and some good luck as they won a home contest with Connecticut, 24-17. The Huskies coughed up the ball on their own 10-yard line late in the game, and The Elis scored what proved to be the winning touchdown two plays later.

Ark of Triumph

Earlier, Yale back Ken Hill attempted a one-handed catch on the UConn 43-yard line, but the ball hit Hill and bounced into the arms of Yale split end Dan Stratton, who ran the rest of the way in for the score. The Elis are now 1-1, while the Huskies drop to 0-2.

Ben Tea scored twice to lead Cornell to a 36-21 win over Colgate in Ithaca yesterday. Big Red quarterback Mike Ryan was 8 for 12 in the air as he sparked Cornell to their second successive high-scoring win.

Rutgers used a 24-point second half spurt to win the Battle of New Jersey, 38-14, at Princeton. Dave Dorn scored two touchdowns and the Scarlet Knights amassed 254 yards on the ground as they upped their record to 3-1.

Columbia continued its losing ways by dropping a 14-7 decision to Lafayette. The Lions had several opportunities to tie the score, but were shut out in the second half. On two occasions, Columbia had the ball inside the Lafayette 15 but failed to score. Ed Rogusky scored two TD's for Lafayette.

Finally, in Bethlehem, Pa., Lehigh defeated Pennsylvania, 31-7. The Quakers committed five turnovers as their record fell to 0-2.

Coupled with the Harvard loss, Princetons's defeat means that Cornell and Yale are the only Ivy teams to sport unbeaten records. However, none of today's action has any bearing on the Ivy race, which will resume next Saturday with two games, Princeton-Brown and Penn-Columbia.
