Harvard men's fencing team overpowered a weaker Brandeis team, 18-9, at the IAB yesterday evening.
Michael Bierer began the onslaught, slashing his way to a 5-0 victory. Robert Homer followed with a second sabre triumph. Bierer's second win clinched the match for the Crimson and the swordsmen then tested some new talent.
Sophomore John Kelley and junior Jon Nakamoto, fencing in their first varsity meets, both won decisively. Kelley thrust his way to a 5-2 epee victory while Nakamoto displayed excellent footwork in his 5-3 win.
Peter Gordon led the foil team to an impressive 7-2 total over the Judges. "Gordon was tremendous," captain Gene Vastola said yesterday.
Gordon fenced in place of Vastoal, who sat out while replacing coach Ben Zivkovic, who is currently in Rome. Gordon showed fine skills winning wll three of his bouts.
The 3-1 swordsmen break for Christmas, and return to actio Jan. 13, when they will face Dartmouth.
