Two Harvard students distributed 40 copies of that note along with 40 rolls of toilet paper late Tuesday night to Lowell House to protest the fact that toilet paper is not provided by the University for River Houses.

The pair, who would identify themselves only as "Robin Hood and a merry man"--because they feared retaliation from the "bourgeois Ad Board"--said they stole the toilet paper from bathrooms in William James Hall early Tuesday morning.

However, a spot check of the building's men's rooms late Tuesday afternoon revealed a normal supply of toilet paper, and three janitors and a security guard said that they knew nothing about the raid.

"We theorize that the janitor got scared that he would be blamed and so he quickly replaced it all," Robin said, adding, "where else would we have gotten all this?"

Archie C. Epps III, dean of students, said he had "no profound reaction" to the incident.
