It took the old "sleeper" play to do it, but somebody finally scored against the Kirkland House tackle football squad. Midway through the second quarter, Leverett House's Hal Monbouquette lined up along the sideline, hauled in Bob Holz's pass, and sprinted unscathed into the endzone to rack up the first points scored against Kirkland's defense this year. Otherwise, yesterday's House championship game at Soldiers Field belonged to the K-House eleven as they romped, 27-6.

The deluge began early. Leverett fumbled on their first play from scrimmage and Kirkland's Peter Robbins recovered. Brad Lown powered his way into the endzone from the eight to cap a 40-yd. march and K-House led, 7-0, with just four minutes gone in the game.

Phil Montgomery made it 13-0 when he grabbed a Casey Fitts aerial at the 15-yd. line and raced down the sideline to paydirt. Monbouquette's touchdown followed and pulled Leverett to within seven at halftime, 13-6.

Team coaches Mike Faught of Kirkland and Leverett's Bill Lewis agreed afterwards that the key to the game was Kirkland's 90-yd. drive following the second half kickoff. Quarterback Fitts carried it in himself from the two to finish a drive that featured strong running by Ed Tompkins and Brad Lowns behind Kirkland's formidable offensive line.

Brian Gilfeather completed the scoring in the fourth quarter, driving in straight ahead from the four against a stubborn. but tiring, Leverett defense.

The Kirkland players were quick to credit their undefeated season to the efforts of coach Faught. It was he who organized practices, scouted the opposition, and blended Kirkland's abundant gridiron talent into a championship squad.
