News Shorts

The Cambridge Coalition for YES on Question 1 will lead a march of community groups, politicians, and residents today to show support for an amendment on the Nov. 7 ballot to establish different tax classes for residential and business property.

Tenants and elderly homeowners in Cambridge are expected to bear the brunt of an $8.6 million tax increase under 100 per cent valuation, Sam Gregory, spokesman for the Cambridge Coalition, said yesterday.

The march is scheduled to leave Brattle Square after 11 a.m. and head down Mass. Ave. to Central Square for a rally near Cambridge City Hall.

State Senators Michael J. LoPresti and Francis X. McCann of Cambridge are expected to take part, along with city council and school committee members who are favoring Question 1.

Community organizations, including the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants and the Committee of Elders, will participate.
