ST. AVANGER, Norway--American experts will arrive today to try to stop a leak from an oil well 180 miles off the Norwegian coast that has been spewing millions of gallons of crude oil into the North Sea.
Nearly two million gallons of oil have escaped since a pipe exploded Friday night, releasing a 180-foot high geyser of oil.
The Norwegian pollution control agency said yesterday that favorable winds have blown the oil away from the coast, giving the clean-up operation several days to avert what could become a major ecological disaster.
