Contract talks between Harvard and the union representing University police officers began moving again Monday after a three-month impasse.
Spokesmen for both sides reported progress in the negotiations, which have stalled repeatedly since last January over the issues of job security, employee morale and increased benefits.
The policemen also got some good news when Joe B. Wyatt, vice president for administration, announced last week he would release to the union the results of a recently completed management study of the University police department.
Although Wyatt said he does not want the report to become "a bargaining issue," union spokesmen say they believe the report should help both sides address the "morale question" that has dogged the talks.
The talks will resume on Tuesday afternoon. Both sides say they are cautiously optimistic.
