The Harvard women's swim team had more than just a good meet in last night's 75-56 defeat of UMass. They presented a fine team effort while establishing two new team records.

Laurie Downey and freshman Liz Kelly led the Crimson, each contributing four wins to Harvard's tally.

Although the 400 medley relay of Gina Stuart, Diana Borden, Sharon Beckman, and Sherry Lubbers were touched out at the finish, their strong showing seemed to spark the team from the effects of their long bus ride.

Nonetheless, the teams stayed even until Downey won the 200 back. Two events later, she won again-this time the 100 fly. Coach Stephanie Walsh credited this combination of wins as "breaking the meet open."

From then on Harvard dominated. Kelly established new team records in the 500 and the 1000 free with times of 5:18.5 and 10:56.7, respectively. Katie Kelley turned in strong performances in both these events, finishing performances in both these events, finishing second in each.

Maura Costin and Sherry Lubbers finished first and second in the 200 free. Kelly added another first, in the 100 free, and Downey won the 100 back. The scoring duo helped complete the evening's work by combining with Costin and Kelley to win the 400 freestyle relay.

After Christmas break the squad will try to extend its three meet win streak as they host Brown in their first in-league meet.
