Quad Construction Behind Schedule

The construction of a dining hall addition for Cabot Hall at South House is several weeks behind its January 1 completion deadline, University officials said yesterday.

"Even though we had tried to get the heavy construction over with before the students came back to school" Francis A. Lawton, assistant dean for facilities in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, said yesterday heavy construction will continue for at least a month.

Robert J. Candela, assistant manager for renovations in the construction management division, said yesterday he could not say when the project, includes a ramp for handicapped students leading into the hall entry and the dining room, would be completed.

There has been some complaint about the noise level of the construction, but "the students are awfully good about it," Rulan, C. Pian '44, master of South House, said yesterday.

However, Peter D. Mark '79, a resident of South House, said, "I know I'm getting up at eight o'clock every morning--regardless. The noise is pretty loud."
