Although the games did not mean much of anything, except perhaps to departing seniors and coaches pointing toward next year, the Ivy League finished out the football season in Providence, Philadelphia and Princeton yesterday. Brown, Penn and the home Tigers all snatched final-day victories to end this highly unusual (so what else is new?) Ivy football season. While entertaining visions of a three-or four-way tie for the league title, Brown (5-2 Ivy, 7-2 overall) waged battle with lowly Columbia on Alumni Field, and though the Bruins departed with a 21-14 victory, the title was being decided a few miles down Route 95.

Bruins Take Lions

The Bruins handled the Lions via the turf, as Seth Morris (141 yards) and JoJo Jamiel (87) powered the Brown running attack. No matter how good the effect it was not enough, however--an opening loss to Yale, 10-9, and a one-touchdown loss to Penn had erased Brown's title hopes.

Penn (4-3, 5-4) turned in still another surprise win at Franklin Field, handing Dartmouth (4-3, 5-4) its third razor-thin loss of the fall, 7-3. The Big Green nearly pulled it out in coach Jake Crouthamel's finale, driving to the Penn two-yard line in the last quarter before quarterback Buddy Teevens' fourth down keeper came up inches short of the first down.

Princeton (3-4, 3-6) may have pulled coach Bob Casciola off the endangered species' list, socking it to Cornell (1-6, 1-8) 34-0. Tailback Bobby Isom once more turned in his song-and-dance show, waltzing past Cornell for 178 yards.

So the season is over, and the teams with the schizophrenic personalities--Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth and Penn--are back in the pack, while the not-so-schizophrenic Elis stand tall on top of the heap.
