The Radcliffe Union of Students (RUS) this week formed an ad hoc committee to consider possible changes in RUS election procedure that might make the organization more representative.

Susan Comstock '78, president of RUS, said Tuesday such changes are necessary because Radcliffe students are generally uninterested in and uninformed about the elections at present.

Elections are currently held in House dining halls in the spring for executive board officers, and in the fall for the RUS legislature, which is composed of representatives from each House. Legislative elections were held last weekend.

In recent years, a number of Houses have been completely unrepresented in the legislature, and last spring only one of the top four executive posts was contested.

Last year Winthrop House had no legislator, and Dudley House is unrepresented this year, Comstock said.

She added many freshmen and sophomores declined to vote in the elections last weekend because they said they knew nothing about the candidates and could not make informed decisions.

The procedural changes under consideration include spring legislature elections, required position papers, and an increase in the number of representatives.
