Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And if you're a member of the Harvard field hockey team you sometimes settle for a tie. Saturday's 3-3 stalemate against Princeton at Soldier's Field brings Harvard's record to 3-1-3.

The tigers, coached by Vonie Gros, who doubles as the Olympic field hockey coach, took an early lead in the game scoring twice within the first fifteen minutes.

The stickwomen were not phased. At 18:25 into the first half they came back with a score by Jenny Stone off an assist from freshman Elaine Kellog.

Less than two minutes later, they evened the score, when center back Susie McCune shot the ball in unassisted.

The halftime tie was broken six minutes into the second half on a score from Kellog, who was making her first varsity start. McCune got the assist as her shot from the circle was stuffed through the Princeton goalie's legs by the charging Kellog, who like Tammany Hall boss George Washington Plunkett, saw her opportunities and took 'em.

The Harvard lead was short-lived. It ended six minutes later when Princeton scored off a corner shot, the same play responsible for their two previous goals.

Fifteen minutes later Harvard walked off the field with their third consecutive tie in the Ivies. On the bright side, the draw represents progress for a Harvard team that has never beaten Princeton.

Next week it's on to Brown, where they hope to end their tying streak and get back to winning some.
