Fund Raisers Seek Facilities For Athletes

The Athletics Fund Raising Program will intensify its fund drive for next year for proposed sports facilities at Soldiers Field and Observatory Hill, a program spokesman said yesterday.

John P. Reardon Jr. '60, the program's coordinator, said Harvard has already received about $12 million in donations for Soldiers Field complex, but it still needs an additional $36.7 million for construction and maintenance costs.

Breaking Ground

In May, the University broke ground for a swimming, tennis and track facility in Soldiers Field. Reardon said he believes the program will be able to find the additional $4.7 million needed to establish an endowment for the building's maintenance.
