Jiggetts Signs a Contract To Play Ball With Bears

Danny Jiggetts, offensive standout for the Crimson football team last fall, signed a contract Thursday to play with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League.

Jiggetts, an offensive tackle, said the Bears gave him a "really good offer" and that he was "very satisfied with the contract."

The Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League also offered him a contract that was, Jiggetts said, "very similar" to the Bears' contract. He said he accepted Chicago's offer because he wanted to stay in the United States.

"I may go into politics later and I didn't want to be out of the country for such a long time," Jiggetts said. "Chicago also has a lot more to offer as a city." Jiggetts said that he hopes to attend the University of Chicago Business School in the off-season.

Jiggetts said that he may not be a starter at the beginning of next year, but he thinks he will be "seeing lots of action by the end of the season."

"My best asset is that I haven't peaked yet like some of the players from larger schools," he said. "I still have a great deal of potential left."

A Star

George M. Karras, offensive line coach for the Crimson, said yesterday that he thinks Jiggetts will "not only make a team, but will be a star." He said Jiggetts is a "good athlete and will do well against athletes with more experience."

Jiggetts said that the Bears have a lot of young players and are in a rebuilding program now. "I like the personnel--both the management and the players," he said.

Jiggetts said he hopes to play for five years, but added, "If things are going well at the end of five years, why not keep on?"

Jiggetts was drafted in the sixth round of the draft by the Bears and was the only Harvard player drafted by the pros this year.
