Aff Act

A group of five women met at Agassiz House Tuesday night to help organize and coordinate efforts to compel the University to change its hiring policies towards women.

"Our basic goal is to get as many people involved in the struggle for implementation of affirmative action as possible," Ruth Colker, the group's organizer, said yesterday.

The group is being formed as part of the Task Force on Affirmative Action, a campus-wide umbrella organization comprising 15 separate groups that has been working since September to improve University hiring policies towards minorities and women.

At the meeting, Colker outlined four programs the group will pursue this spring in an attempt to generate further support: a leafletting campaign directed at students and University employees, a guerilla theater project, a poster campaign and a fund raising effort for legal and office expenses.
