The freshman squash and hockey teams painted New Haven crimson over the weekend with always big victories over Yale J.V. teams.
The first-year squash squad completed an undefeated season, coming out on top of a seesaw, down-to-the-wire match, 5-4. The seat squirming was not over until John Ordway disposed of Yale's Russ Endo with two sudden-death wins and a 15-12 clincher.
Early in the match, it seemed that Harvard was on the way to another convincing victory as Charles Elliot and John Fishwick swept their opening games.
But the Crimson could only manage one victory, by Dick Arnos, in the next four matches. And when Bob Plotz recovered from a 2-0 deficit against Harvard number one player George Bell to give the Elis a 4-3 lead, Harvard was at the low end of the seesaw.
Later on Saturday, the freshmen skaters raised their record to 12-5 with a 7-3 laugher. "We weren't tested to a great degree," coach Tim Taylor said yesterday.
"Everyone played well enough to win."
The game was close for a little more than one period before the Crimson finished off Yale, led by Murray Dea and Doug Thompson with two goals apiece.
