Racquetwomen Top Brown 6-1, As Moore Leads the Charge

The Radcliffe squash team, behind the strong play of number one player Julia Moore, devastated Brown Saturday 6-1 at Hemenway Gymnasium.

Moore, the captain of the team, dispatched her opponent in four games. After losing the first game 16-15, Moore won the next three games easily, 15-8, 15-0, 15-2.

Freshman Sarah Mleczko and Jenny Stone continued the racquetwomen's winning ways. Mleczko won a close match, 11-15, 15-11, 15-10, 18-15, and Stone beat her opponent 3-0.

"I played much better Saturday than I've played all year," Stone said yesterday. Stone added that her strategy was to vary her shots, hitting corner shots to bring her foe to the front wall and then smashing shots close to the wall, driving her back.

At number four, Eve Caligor breezed by her counterpart from Brown 15-5, 15-8, 15-14.

Becky Miles, the only senior on the team, was also the only loser. Miles came out strong, taking the first game 15-12, but then lost the next three, 15-11, 15-12, 17-15.

Two more freshmen rounded out the scoring. Margot McGlade won her third match of the season without a loss, 15-5, 15-12, 10-15, 15-9, and Becky Tung took her match 15-5, 15-18, 15-5, 15-6.

The Radcliffe junior varsity squad was not as successful against Brown, losing its match 5-2.
