During the last few weeks, 50-60 freshly laundered brassieres vanished from the dryers and drying racks of the South House laundry rooms.
While a pair of bluejeans, a sportshirt, and a quantity of underpants have also been reported missing, "there have been a lot of bras," Shirley Broner, South House secretary, said yesterday.
"Someone might have a room festooned with bras by now," Broner said. "Either it's a pervert or a mischievous person," she added.
Searching for a pattern in the disappearances, South House resident Laurie Hartzland '79 noted "they don't seem to take anything wet." All of the articles vanished while owners were absent during the drying half of the wash cycle.
Broner notified the police after about ten students complained of missing underwear, she said. The case was listed in the police record, but no official security measures will be taken.
"I suggested to the girls that theyform a vigilante committee to find out who's doing it," Broner said.
Currier and North House have not experienced a similar problem.
