Although Harvard students are now allowed to take non-credit Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) courses at MIT. only three students are actually enrolled in the programs this year.

Spokesmen for the MIT Army and Air Force ROTC programs said Tuesday that although they have received a number of inquiries from Harvard students, only the three students who asked the Faculty to allow them to participate last spring have enrolled.

The Faculty passed legislation last spring allowing students to cross-register in MIT's ROTC programs under the assumption that very few Harvard students would be interested in joining ROTC.

Robert J. Ginn Jr., associate director of the Office of Career Services and Off-Campus Learning, said Tuesday he does not expect many students to join ROTC.

But William R. Trott, the colonel directing the MIT Air Force ROTC, said Tuesday he expects more students will enroll after this year, since high school students will know before they come here that they are eligible for ROTC scholarships.

"I think it's safe to assume we will get three or four more" Harvard students this year, Richard Murphy, captain of the Army ROTC at MIT, said Tuesday.
