Radio station WHRB resumed broadcasting last night after a technical malfunction forced the station off the air for nearly the entire weekend.
WHRB went off the air around 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon when a capacitor, a component of the station's transmitter, blew out. A replacement part had to be flown in from a Quincy, Ill. manufacturer, finally arriving at Logan Airport Sunday afternoon.
Station technicians installed the part later that evening, enabling the station to return to the air around 7:30 p.m. last night. WHRB immediately began broadcasting a 77-hour "Beethoven Orgy."
The blowout forced the cancellation of several programs scheduled for the weekend, including a Miles Davis Orgy, a seven-hour New Orleans Blues Orgy, and a Coleman Hawkins jazz program.
