Bruins Dominate Crimson In Weekend Scrimmage

If controlled scrimmages prove anything, then Harvard football coach Joe Restic has a good number of problems to solve this week as the Crimson gears for its season opener against Holy Cross on Saturday.

A weekend confrontation with the Brown football squad pointed up some critical weaknesses, not the least of which is a desperate need for a dependable quarterback. Both senior Steve O'Brien and sophomore Tim Davenport, the leading contenders for the starting job, turned in mediocre performances in Saturday's scrimmage.

Another area of concern was Harvard's pass defense, which was expected to be one of the team's strong points. Bruin quarterback Bob Bateman, a senior transfer who established numerous passing records at Vermont before the school dropped its football program, had an impressive day which included two long scoring strikes.

The Crimson, the defending Ivy League champions, and coach Restic have their work cut out for them with just five days remaining before the first kickoff of 1975.
