Six Harvard oarsman and one Radcliffe oarswoman helped win U.S. victories in the eights events at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in Ontario, Canada Sundays.

The women's boat, which included Radcliffe oarswoman Wiki Royden, outdistanced the seven competing boats to win the 1000 meter race in 3 minutes 13 seconds. Harvard crew coach Harry Parker has been coaching the team for the past month at the first national training camp for women which is being held at Harvard.

Harvard's Dick Cashin, Al Shealy and Dave Weinberg rowed on the men's national team boat in the major event of the day, the men's senior eights. The eight-man boat, which won at the world championships in 1974, narrowly beat the Ridley Boat Club of Canada, finishing the 2000 meter course in 5 minutes 38.7 seconds.

The American lightweight crew, which includes Harvard oarsmen Steven Heller, Lief Soderberg and Ned Reynolds, won a hard fought victory over Canada's national lightweight squad by one-half length, taking 6 minutes 17.5 seconds for the 2000 meter course>.

Both the men's and the women's national teams will participate in the World Championships in Nottingham, England on August 2 to 26.

No U.S. women's team has ever made it past the preliminary heats and into the championship finals, but Parker's team may have a better chance. Parker's oars-woman finished the 1000-meter course in 3 minutes 10 seconds, in last week's Olympic Women's Rowing Committee's test, beating the previous women's records by eight seconds.

The men's national team returned to Princeton yesterday, where it will practice for two weeks under coach Al Rosenberg before departing for Nottingham. The women's team has returned to Harvard but will leave for Henley. England, on August 6, to train until the championships.
